The Telepathy Project: A Meeting of Waters

When: Sat, 27 May 2017 at 4:00pm
Where: SAM
How much: Free

Since February, SAM have been working with the artist collective The Telepathy Project, who have been visiting Shepparton, meeting with locals and listening to stories about water. From epic tales of flood and drought to the complex economies of water management (how is it that a litre of milk can cost less than a litre of water?) to the fondly remembered summers at the old Raymond West Swimming Pool, The Telepathy Project have delved into many aspects of water in the Goulburn Valley region.

Many locals know about the early water cart manufacturing history of the Furphys who introduced a new word to the Australian vernacular, but do they know about baptisms in the Goulburn River? Or about the Latham's Snipe - a small bird that saved a Shepparton wetland by linking environmentalists in Japan to recreational shooters in Victoria? Or how about unidentified creatures in the Broken River?

Water connects us in extraordinary ways.

The last meeting at the water tower occurred in 1927. 90 years later The Telepathy Project are calling a new meeting in the decommissioned tower to delve deeper into the communities’ personal and collective memories of water. Chaired by the artists, participants are invited to share these stories, distilling, diverting and infusing them in a special event.

Please rug up and wear sensible shoes. This event is free. We look forward to you joining us on this adventure on Saturday 27 May!

Best wishes,

The Telepathy Project and SAM
